Sales Engineer

We seek a Professional with experience selling technical products and services, developing new accounts, servicing and supporting existing customers and building long term relationships. This person must have a solid understanding of mechanical/electrical/controls design and systems, and ideally prior experience in manufacturing or selling related products/services to manufacturers.

Direct sales is a key part of this job; prospecting, qualifying, RFQ development, cultivating and closing. Our sales person must be comfortable selling to engineers, purchasing agents and upper level management. Sometimes our customers have specific design requirements, but often we have to work through a needs assessment, develop an RFQ and prepare a formal proposal. The sales person is expected to utilize a full range of computer/web tools, including ACT and Salesforce CRM databases, GoToMeeting web interfaces, Eblast email and marketing tools and Powerpoint presentation software.

The sales person is expected to develop/manage $1-2M in sales per year. Compensation includes a base salary, performance-based commission and comprehensive benefits. This is a high profile position that reports to the company president.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Engineering or a technical discipline and real world experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience selling custom machinery, automated systems, machine vision and robotics.
  • A demonstrable track record with, and a commitment to, process selling in a long-term sales cycle. Capable of developing new systems and procedures to improve sales and marketing functions.
  • An outgoing personality, good judgment and a professional demeanor. Able to assess the business potential in a sales opportunity, and then to analyze and promote a solution to meet customer needs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Capable of selling ‘big picture’ solutions, while also keeping track of details for projects and prospects to drive new business and cultivate relationships.
  • Capable of operating independently for external job functions, and also collaboratively with a team of engineers and technicians internally, working together on proposals and customer relationships.
  • A high degree of self motivation, personal integrity and a dedication to succeed.
